For added realism, air operated retractable landing gear is available, as is an optional turbine conversion kit for powering the Panther with a 6kg class gas tubine engine.

For the sport flyer looking at trying their hand at R/C jet flying, the Awesome R/C Panther is advanced light weight construction not only gives the model an accurate performance up. Scale air-retacts add to the realism of the Panther and is equally at home flying from paved or grass fields. The panther is an excellent performer with ducted fan power, however an optional stainless dual walled tail pipe is available for those wishing to use one of the popular 14lb (6kg) class gas turbine engines on the market.

History of the Grumman F9F Panther
Beginning life in 1946 as Design G-79, the Grumman XF9X-1 Panther was company's first serious attempt to manufactuer a jet powered aircraft. A Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet engine, later to be built under license by Pratt & Whitney, was imported to power the XF9F-2 on its maiden flight on November 21, 1947. It could 20,000 ft in a little over 2 minutes and reach a top speed of 573 mph at that altitude. Permanently mounted wing tip fuel tanks were added to the F9F-2 with this feature being retained for all prodction Panthers.
In 1950, when the Korean War began, the F9F Panther made up the majority of the US Naval, carrier based aircaft and in fact has the distinction of being the first US Navy aircraft to down a Russian built Mig-15. Production ended with dash 5 model in December 1952, but remained in service with the US Marines until 1957.
